Caironi P.

Dr. Pietro Caironi is Associate Professor in Anesthesia and Critical Care at the University of Turin (Turin, Italy), and Head of the Department of Anesthesia and Critical care at San Luigi Gonzaga Hospital in Orbassano (Turin, Italy). He has been formerly Associate Professor at the University of Milan (Milan, Italy), at the Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda – Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, where he first graduated with honors in 2000 and achieved the same highest level of distinction in his residency program in Anaesthesia and Critical Care in 2004. From 2001 to 2004, he has been appointed as Research Fellow at the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care of the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, MA. In 2004, Dr. Caironi has been awarded as a finalist of the Cournand and Comroe Young Investigator Award within the Cardiopulmonary and Critical Care Council of the American Heart Association, and in 2008 he received the ECCRN Clinical Research Award of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine. In 2015 he has been Director of the Master Program in Intensive Care Medicine at the University of Milan (Italy). Dr. Caironi holds various teaching activities in the University of Turin, and served as a member of the Editorial Board of Minerva Anestesiologica, and as reviewer for several high-ranked scientific journals. He has also been recipient of several public and industry-funded research grants. His main research interests focus on sepsis, including fluid therapy and albumin, acid-base equilibrium, urinary electrolyte monitoring, as well as lung physiology and acute respiratory failure.
